From a humble beginning……

The Pursuits Group is 10 years old today. From a humble beginning as Career Pursuits in May 1998 the company created another division just a few months later and then another in 2002. The incorporation of all three divisions into The Pursuits Group was completed in 2005.

Today the Company provides a wide variety of services for people from all walks of life through its community services and training divisions.

An anniversary is usually a time for reflection and stock taking. For us it is also an occasion to mark our achievements, an opportunity to celebrate our survival and most importantly to thank every one who contributed to our success. When I look back over the past 10years, I know that I owe the success of our operation to many people and organisations that encouraged and supported me in what, at times, felt like a mammoth task that I had undertaken and I thank them all without exception.

I had a dream to create a business where I could provide opportunities for people to understand their own abilities and develop positive career paths for their future. And a solid sense of the notion of community was the essence that sustained me in the pursuit of my dream. Today I am reflecting upon whether or not I have achieved what I set out to do.

Over the years I have worked closely with different organisations involved in a wide range of community programs providing services for people who are frail aged and have a disability, people who are seeking some light through the maze of potential job paths and people who have made a decision to commit to working in the community sector in a range of occupations.

In 1998 I commenced work to build the business with 1.5 staff and today there are over 100 people who appear on the payroll every fortnight. In the year from 1 May 2007 until today we assisted 1905 clients that has grown from a mere 981 in the same period in 2002. The training division too is always busy with a range of training being provided to our own workers, people from other organisations and the general public.

When I think back to what I wanted to do the results above allow me to state that “Yes, I have achieved what I set out to do”. I reflect back on my initial basic business plan which was only bolstered by my enthusiasm and my unquestioning belief that I was going to be successful. I thought that because I was working in the community sector which I felt I knew something about that it was going to be easy.

Easy!!! It definitely was not and there have been many rocky roads travelled. But our past experiences now allow us to enter the next phase of our development with confidence in our professional abilities to meet client needs and to use the work undertaken until now to make a difference in people lives.

We are celebrating our past today and embracing our future with the announcement of a new venture – a care facility in Wembley that we have been preparing for use for the past twelve months. More news will follow on this adventure soon.

I wish now to pay tribute to all our clients and staff and to anyone who has worked with us to provide the services that we do and by which we make a positive contribution to our community and to other peoples’ lives. I sincerely hope that I will have your continued support into the future.
